Hargeisa 27 Dec, 2023 [MoFD] – The 122nd session of the Somaliland cabinet chaired by the President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE. Muse Bihi Abdi, the budget proposal which is presented to the council will prioritize areas such as national defense and the upcoming elections.
The 2024 Government Budget presented by the Ministry of Finance Development of Somaliland totals 3,432,316,337,448 (Three Trillion, Four Hundred and Thirty Two Billion, Three Hundred and Sixteen Million, Three Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and forty-eight) Somaliland shillings, which consists of:
● Central Government budget
● Budget of the Local-governments
● Autonomous Agencies
● World Bank projects
Minister of Finance Development, Dr. Saad Ali Shire who explained in detail to the council the budget estimate also mentioned the extra effort shown by the Ministry by fulfilling the duties of the National Constitution Article 55 Paragraph 1 and the Financial Management Act No. 75/2016 in its 5th article, he explained the areas and the national budget for the year 2024 to focus on and the areas where the revenue is expected to be collected, while the members of the ministers entered into a long discussion and analysis about the budget forecast.
When the discussion ended The President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE. Excellency Muse Bihi Abdi asked the council to vote the proposal, and the Cabinet of Ministers approved by absolute majority for the 33rd budget estimate of the nation and it will be forwarded to the Somaliland House of Representatives to perform their constitutional duties.
The 2024 budget is guided and centered on the following areas:
● Reforming the National Defense System
● Holding the upcoming elections
● Balancing income and expenses,
● Inflation control,
● Promotion of judicial service,
● Increasing Local Agricultural Productivity
